I think that I may have hit upon the area that she is from, because on the 
very next page, I found another Maria with a Maciel surname.

Maybe cousins? Now to figure out which one is my GGGM, if either?

The name Manuel Ferreira Leal is also in the tree of someone who I match on 
GEDmatch
