Joanne,
Keep in mind that Calvo(a) may be a nickname (alcunha). Calvo/a means bald.
There are also lots of unconnected Calvos is Bretanha.
Good luck!

much, John, for all the information. I may order the index because I have two
direct lines that run through Bretanha and it might help me clear up some name
issues. Calvo becomes de Medeiros with Mathias on his marriage entry but from
what you’ve provided me the name goes further back in the family. The “name
game” is certainly playing itself out in my tree!
Thanks again!Joanne

Subject: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Translation help - MathiasCalvo 1731 Ajuda de
Bretanha I do not know if Andre is Antonio'sfather. Before 1703 the records for
Bretanha no longer exist. Allthat we have is an index, with many gaps, put
together by a vicarin 1723, of the deteriorating registers he found in Bretanha
whenhe arrived. Many records had already been lost, some were
partiallyobliterated, and as I said, there were many gaps. I have had someluck
connecting many lines back to the 16th century using thatindex, but I also have
my share of Bretanha dead ends. On Saturday, September 10, 20165:22 PM, Joanne

And how and when did the de Medeiros name get involved?Mathias and Antonio are
my 4GG and 5GG respectively and I’d like totrace things back further.
