Yes, that's the João de Sousa Machado that I'm referring to.

Is Joao de Sousa Machado married to Josepha de Sao Joao? They had 6 children

his brother Antonio Sousa Machado married to Maria Inacia de Azevedo, all of

for yet, I usually didn't look for them all and only recorded what I found
while searching for my direct line.

OMGosh, Victor, this is amazing! I knew Bernarda Rosa was going to lead me
somewhere one day! LOL Her name was so unusual that I made a note of it and
eventually she turned out to be a greatgrandmother along with her husband,
Domingos Antonio de Sousa! Thank you so much for this info, I will enjoy
reading about my ancestor in other than church records.

It's amazing to read about things like land ownership, agriculture,
aristocracy, living conditions, etc. Most relevant to the people on this list
is the mention of various names. For example, on pg. 55, it contains a
description of a typical land lease using one of my ancestors' contracts:

  * The new renters, Bernarda Rosa, widow of Domingos António, and her son
Domingos António de Sousa during 6 years had to pay annually in cash 140,000
reis and in goods 18 cheeses of 4 pounds each, 3 of 10 pounds and 8 barrels(?)
of butter.

There are many other names in this dissertation so if your lines lead you to
the council of Velas in São Jorge you should search through the dissertation.
You may even find the design an ancestor used for branding their livestock!
