Men generally do not change their names around. The priest was required to read the record back, so the vast majority of errors were caught. I'll look over this when I get home, although Mara may beat me to it.
I do know that in instances where I have found discrepancies, I had to collect all siblings, all kids, sometimes all grandkids to figure it out.
