Thank You very much Cheri. I feel you opened the door for me.

I took the simple and easy lessons on the FHC site on how to read Portuguese
documents.
Very useful to be able to pick out key words when searching..

Subject: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Maria do Rego

Yes Bill C, you found it. Yay!

It starts of with the 4 May 1899 (her baptism date), names the church in Pico
da Pedra called Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, in the council of Ribeira Grande in
the Diocese of Angra (all of the Azores is the Diocese of Angra), she was born
at 10 a.m. on the 25 of April of the current year, 2nd of the name (so there's
another Maria born before her) of Jose Cabral do Rego, (can't read his
occupation), native of Sao Vicente, council of Ponta Delgada of this Diocese
(so go look there for his baptism), and Julia da Conceicao, occupation domestic
(housewife), native of the freguesia of Divino do Espirito Santo of this
council (so look there for her birth), received (means married) in the
freguesia of the Apostle of Sao Pedro of the council of Ponta Delgada (so go
look there for their marriage), parishioners of this freguesia, living on Rua
do Ra_____, granddaughter paternal of Francisco Cabral do Rego and of Roza de
Jesus and maternal of Jose Soares and Francisca d'Almeida. For godfather Manuel
do Couto, fisherman, and godmother Ermelinda d'Almeida. The rest is blah blah
church stuff.

Margin note 1: Married with Manuel Alves Pacheco in the Registo Civil of the
freguesia of Pico da Pedra in this council on the day 8 Oct 1917 (the world
does day month year - America is weird), record # 124 of 1917. Dated 12 May
1968 signature (date note was made).

Margin note 2: The marriage record above #1 was dissolved by the death of the
spouse marital died on the day 4 something of obits # 349. Dated 12 May 1968.
I'm going to guess the husband died 4 May 1968.

Strategy: I'd find Maria #1. Then the rest of the siblings. You'll get used to
the priest's handwriting. Just pick out what you can and ask for what you can't
read. You can get it with a little practice. Once you get the siblings, Then go
chasing after the dad, Jose Cabral do Rego, and his siblings. Or go after the
mom, Julia da Conceicao, and her siblings.

Make sure you have a good genealogy program to put this into. Some are free.

Legacy Family Tree: www.legacyfamilytree.com Their Standard Edition is free.

RootsMagic: www.rootsmagic.com/essentials Their Essentials is free.

Pick the one that suits you best. If you like it, you can purchase the full
version which has more features.

Good luck,

Cheri Mello
