Tony, here goes my take on it:

On the twelfth day of the month of November of the year one thousand seven
hundred and thirty eight, sank off the coast of the Island of Pico, one
boat of this parish mastered by Domingos Dias da Rosa, dying three men of
this parish, who are, *Manoel Correia Pereira* husband of Barbara de Sousa
of the age of fifty years more or less who was buried in the Misericordia
in the town of Sao Roque of the Island of Pico. There were no offerings for
his soul for he was poor and leaving debt; *Luis Pereira* husband of Maria
de Sao Jose at the age of sixty years more or less it is understood he did
not resurface; nothing was arbitrated/charged for he was poor and it is not
known of the debts contained in his inventory constative to what will be
done for his soul: and *Paschoal de Sousa* son of Paschoal de Sousa Leal
who is also understood did not resurface. His Father ordered a Ceremony for
his soul and to celebrate twenty-five masses be said. For the record I’ve
issued this record which I signed on the sixteenth day of the same month
and year.
