Mel, The main body *might* say that he was given to Maria de Jesus, wife of Joao Pacheco Grande, to nurse. There's some words before that I'm unfamiliar with, so a native speaker will have to help out here.
The side margin says the mom came and claimed him. He was the natural son of Maria Pacheco. Of book 7, number 2. That's how I read it. I'm not sure what it means. I don't see any legitimization books for the 1860s.
