Jan V, Where was Jane Whittle born? You never state that.
The Azores is an autonomous region of Portugal. They consist of 9 islands, the largest of which is Sao Miguel. San Miguel is one of the Channel Islands off the coast of California. :) Everything in the Azores is organized on the town level (village or freguesia). They are mainly the Catholic records. Were your people Catholic? If so, start going through all 70 or so churches on Sao Miguel island, looking for your people. https://tombo.pt/i/sao-miguel If they were not Catholic, they may have used the Civil Registry for that time period. Some of those records exist. I don't believe they were digitized. You will have to go to your local Family History Center (FHC) that is affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (no, you don't need to be Mormon to use their library). You will have to order the film for each village that had Civil Registry records and look through them for your people.
