Dear List,

If what is happenning is that Moses had failed to keep the covenant that had 
been made with Abraham and the rite of circumcision with his sons, then 
Zipporah's actions and subsequent remarks make even more sense.

Ignorance is no excuse for not obeying. Moses had not obeyed the covenant of 
God and the rite of circumcision. God was going to kill him. Moses could not be 
the representative of God as long as he did not obey. Thus, Zipporah 
circumcizes the children and calls Moses by the epitaph in 4:25. "Bridegroom of 
Blood" would be a fitting epitaph; and even then, one of contempt and derision.
