I haven't looked at the links that you provided in your first post about this, Tom, but I would say that tagging message board threads (or even posts) would definitely have good uses for the end-user, especially in cases where the forum is about a broad subject. Typically, in such forums you'll have a lot of people who ask questions without reading the FAQ, or perhaps it's been a question that's been asked a lot, and they just haven't looked to see if the question's been answered. The common response to such questions is to use the Search function. Tags could be seen as an extension to that; being able to tag threads based on what topics they deal with could be a good way to help people find threads, or perhaps even power a "Related threads" section. In particular, if the user has the ability to search on two or more tags at once - for example, finding all threads tagged "linux" AND "printing" - it would have the potential to be quite an accurate tool, whereas searching the traditional way may not always be as accurate.
