I'm not currently doing active development on BackupPC. I've been extremely busy during the last year. Paul Mantz is working on BackupPC, funded by Zmanda, recently adding native ftp support, so there is some activity. But I am keeping up with the discussions on the mail lists, gathering todo items and bug fixes. So any bug fixes submitted are being noted for the next release. There is a pretty clear idea of major new features, and I do hope to commit more time to BackupPC in the future.
