The main issue with mixing CPAN and rpms is that the rpm side doesn't
know about the CPAN packages and might overwrite them with older
packages. In practice that hasn't been a big problem for me.
If you still have your /root/.cpan/build directories around you might
put things back with a 'Makefile.PL ; make install' in the package
directories.
