I think v4 has had enough real world testing where it can be disabled.  See

I've been running v4 for over a year now without problems.  My host summary:

There are 868 hosts that have been backed up, for a total of:

868 full backups of total size 89.02GiB (prior to pooling and compression),
22704 incr backups of total size 3103.35GiB (prior to pooling and
compression).
