Susan,
Putting aside the issue of transgender challenges, I have known
Baha'is who married members of the opposite sex in order to pass
within the Baha'i community as heterosexual. I assume that they felt
this was an acceptable approach to their struggles with sexual
preference. I guess it stopped people from asking too many questions.
It seems to me that if people were willing to function in life in that
manner, then there are other lifestyles that people would be willing
to impose upon themselves, whether it fit within a Baha'i context or
not.
Human sexual behavior can be expressed in a bewildering array both
inside our community and without.
I think that it is our difficulty understanding these issues that
often leads to our lack of compassion once we encounter them.
