The Baha'i Studies Listserv
i would offer that the beloved and infallible Guardian somwehere or other (i am
all about precise cites) suggested invoking hypotheticals when there was an
actual world to play in was not totally what he wished for.
   :"Universal House of Justice
don't have plenary inerrancy, is that acceptable to the Administration, do
you think?"
the only , like >>>>only<<< opinion on that that would matter is that of the
House.
i recently sent the entrie body of a discussion about the limits of the
conferred infallibility of the House to the >House< as being the only
infallible decider of when it is fallible.
there were a couple of questions contained in the matieral.
the answer from the House may be reduced, i my reading, to the House being
protected frm indiviudal agenda affecting the consultation, and the House
making no wrong decisions in the area where It is infallible.
:"probably do not find my understanding
acceptable. This obviously worries me."
 uh...why????
where is that in the T&G???
:"most Baha'is seem to vehemently believe "
 who cares??

behavioural concrete:
in th above mentioned plea for help to the House i stated specifically that i
was betting my soul on the outcome to a small set of questions.
and i got the answr i got.
 nobody else's. just mine.

 :"they can accept literal
verbal inerrancy. "
i wouild offer that it is my firmest professional opinion that most people
don;t have a clue about the language thy are speaking, and merely trade
strokes, like monkeys picking lice, as art of finding animal hierarchies.
   :"I
believe most folks on this list believe in what I would call literal verbal
inerrancy of the Writings and the Central Figures"
i am a hard core fundie.
i beleive in th literal verbal inerrancy of the Bab and Baha'u'llah, the
literal verbal inerrancy of the Master and Guardian (not Abbas Effendi or
shoghi effendi) in matters directly Covenantally concerning the prop&prot of
the Faith. that the House is inerrant in elucidating specific coures of action
desirable to take in achieving (for the time being, like, next 850 years or
whatever) the Stated Goals of the Twin Manifestations.
i am professionally someone who knows (recall random threads about derrida, et
al??)
that "words" are for fallible audiences...
audiences usually in denial of their own fallibility.
including, to be concrete, that "literal" means "true", excepting when used as
a printing term (the aphorism is "follow copy even if it gos out the window")
 again, behavioural concrete:
it is my view that the House in perfectly fallible defining "dogma" as defined
by the roman catholic church or wikipedia, but is infalllible in saying "if
what u mean by dogma is this, yes, of what u mean by dogma is that, no." when
answrering a question.
when the House was specificalllllly directed to the beleif that the
Guardianship was creagted in the 7 Valleys, and was occulted until the W&T, and
that >>>nobody or nothing<< could tell me that view was wrong, the infalllible
Answer from the infallible House, Inerringly Protected by the Voice that Spoke
thru the Bab ...said?
  not a word.

i willl cheeerfullly "confess" that i am in absolute gunfighter mode these
days, and then offer that it might be amusing for any number of such
discussions to be seen as reducing to "proving" that "my daddy can beat up ur
daddy" vs "my daddy's not so smart, i bet i can show him up" ....rather than
orienting towards, Baha'u'llah...wow. awesome... hmmm..where can i get Some?

;"then surely it will require"
the only thing i can state that is known about this, actually >known< is that
it will require active (by whatever the individual defines as activity)
obedience to the 4 core activities.
it is a personal pov, of no substance, that such obedince would precipitate
the fog evaporating... :-)
