Dear David,

Typically one writes a will before one dies not afterwards. ;-} An
appointment made in a will would still be made during the Guardian's
lifetime and hence in keeping with the W&T.  Obviously a Guardian did
not *have* to be appointed via a will but however appointed it had to
receive the endorsement of nine Hands elected for that purpose. .

 This makes it easier to argue that the Hands could be
> wrong in their judgment that there was no successor.

Searching for a Will in the absence of  evidence that a successor has
been appointed any other way  is certainly not evidence that there
*was* a successor.
