The Baha'i Studies Listserv There was no appointment because there was no one who could be appointed. All the surviving relatives of Abdu'l Baha had broken the covenant. The Hands looked for a Will as one would after the passing on anyone. They may also have been looking for last minute guidance from the Guardian, and perhaps the hope that there was still one faithful member of Abdu'l Bahá's family. Shoghi Effedi in the "World order of Baha'u'llah" which is an elucidation of the Will and Testament can be seen as the Guardian's testament. It does not matter what the Remeyites may understand about the Will and Testament they have no basis for a claim or link to the Guardianship.
