Liberals always try to make taxation progressive. This idea first came from the Communist Manifesto. A 2.5-20% flat tax... Ok, a 20% flat tax would be liked more by conservatives than liberals. On the left hand side of Christianity you have Cornel West, Dorothy Day, many of the Quakers, Menonites, there is a long tradition of Christian Socialism. In terms of Islam, many would argue that zakat is more of a compulsory tax which should be collected by the state (and given to the poor) more so than a voluntary charity. Also folks like Ali Shariati are arguably left-wing. I would definitely argue that left of center interpretations are more correct. In terms of the Bahai Faith, the writings say that extremes of wealth should be "abolished" which sounds a bit different from pure laissez faire capitalism. In a Bahai future wouldn't the fund also be an actual tax which would be coerced?
