I have found that it is very difficult not to appear cold and unfriendly if, when greeted by a female with a loving embrace, I proffer my hand instead. Nevertheless in view of the above quote I believe this would help if we would abide by it.
I agree. I don't think too many people know about the letter you cite, and am inclined to think that some might use hugging as a sexual replacement, whether they are fully conscious of it or not.
