I have found it useful to think about this passage from the Gospel. It isn't as specific as the words of the Guardian, but it's worth remembering:
John 9
1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
I don't see how this helps, as Jesus then proceeds to perform a miracle on the guy and make him right! There isn't a Manifestation around today, and people die of their illnesses.
David
