That's a very strange question, David. Why would you think that Abdu'l Baha wishes one to make "false" friendships?
I wouldn't see it like that. It seems that the concept of friendship in the Faith is just more liberal than the norm. 'Friendship' in the Writings seems based totally on unity and fellowship, not sharing common interests like pottery or sports. I didn't even see anything about common interests in that untranslated Tablet in which 'Abdu'l-Baha listed the nine things to look for in a person to marry. I'm not sure that there would be such a thing as a false friendship in the Faith. Are we supposed to make friends with people regardless of interest in them, even if they aren't a potential convert?
