I am writing to you to apply for the vacant position of your aide. The
d'Alembert family has served France faithfully in her army for three
generations now, and my father was a loyal member of your own Royal Foot
Guards. It would give me the greatest of pleasure to assist you in your
work as a Lt. General, and I would hope that both my upbringing and my
knowledge of matters military, administrative and social will prove to be of
service to you. I will be most honoured should you grant me an interview
for the position before you leave for the front.
