Colonel de Custaad, I am relieved to see that the tradition begun by Brigadier B'Staad is set to continue whilst the regiment in under your stewardship. Please let me know if my help is necessary and, if so, to what extent. The Brouilles affair is, thankfully, over at last - I feel that now we must guide our efforts towards repairing the damage which his regretable command of the regiment has occasioned and doing our utmost to remove the stain upon the regimental honour to which his despicable conduct has given rise. I would be delighted to meet with yourself and the other officers of the regiment at some point in order to review the regimental protocols. As you will appreciate, however, I have little opportunity to consider anything other than the forthcoming campaign at present, and it will be some considerable time before I have the leisure to evaluate the matter properly. Given the problems in this area in the past, however, I can but applaud your intention to leave all new recruits in no doubt whatsoever as regards the requirements of the existing protocols. Without exception, the active commanders of the Dragoon Guards (and of course I don't include Brouilles in this classification since he never led the regiment in battle) have been of the highest possible calibre and amongst the most skilled and effective field commanders which France could boast. I have no doubt that you will uphold the standards of military excellence for which the regiment has become renowned and look forward to reading of your successes over the course of the forthcoming campaign.
