Mon Cher Soire, As you may already be aware, de Lusby refused point blank to resign as my aide(cockily sure that 'friends in high places' would support his insubordination). My only recourse was to keep him as far away from Army HQ as possible last month (on a series of commissions delivering unimportant messages) - hence the army's much improved showing this month. I'm pleased to relate that we were successful in driving the enemy from the field and cutting all supplies to the invested fortresses. (Hopefully, General d'Eau will have more success in reducing them next month). I note also that your efforts to secure the resignation of Field Marshal Tishton met with equally little success - and it seems clear to me that these events are not completely unconnected. Rest assured that I will spare no efforts to secure this personally over the coming month. If Tishton intends to use creatures such as de Lusby in pushing through his policies as Field Marshal the Army will surely fall into a terrible state.
