Yup - both are definitely not opposed. The contact with the player can
definitely be through more "traditional" organizations, such as
governments, NGO, sects... It helps to install it in a modern setting,
and at the same time, still tap into the subconscious strength of the
Gaia myth.

I believe this second part is important though - if we only do
environmentalism/ecology and forget about the Gaia part, we lose an
important component of the theme. We could always replace it by
something else that taps into human psyche, if we find one.

However, I don't think we've really started to explore the theme, from a
story perspective.
