I have been experimenting with reducing my retention period, and have discovered
that the reduction does not take effect until the next job run. Then old backups
are marked stale, and the SQL scripts can delete/purge the old volume to reclaim
space. The Consolidation job did not trigger the retention check on my backups
like I thought it should.

I've just freed about 300G by dropping my retention to 10 days, allowing me to
continue to troubleshoot.
