Clearly. :)  I see that I have added aniversaries to the previous v2
database and v3 does not appear to like that. I will remove those, but I
don't think that is the main issue.

Not sure. Was using for linking people to email addresses for returns
and also for anniversaries. The latter is not working. I could remove
bbdb interaction I suppose.

Not sure how I would go about finding this out. But it seems that some
people use v3 with both Gnus and Org.

As above, I do think it is possible.

I have started Gnus now from within the Org instance of Emacs, so it
should be shared ok. Clearly this is an impractical solution for the
long-run. Thus far, I am receiving the same errors as before. 

I wonder if it would be possible to tell Gnus to use one instance of
.bbdb and Org/general emacs another?
