Sorry Mike, when I saw your first message I didn't realize that the
Insert Tag was relative to the surrounding tags. I can see how that's a real
drawback when working with includes.
Yeah, glossary items are easy to make and use - letting you insert any
custom chunks of text you want. Just put a chunk of text in a BBEdit file and
save it in your glossary folder
(user/Library/App.Support/BBEdit/Glossary/Universal Items) - then it appears in
your glossary list. Clicking the glossary item in your list inserts that custom
text in/around your selection. And, you can assign key-commands to glossary
items. Also, there are dynamic output options for things like date or filename,
and options for wrapping the custom text around a selection, or specifying
cursor position after the insert.
It would be really cool if there was a way to get glossary items in a
contextual menu. Hmm, sounds like a feature request - that could be pretty
useful. Besides, it looks like the glossary options in BBEdit preferences could
use a few more friends.
BTW, another tool you might look into is BBAutoComplete. I can't
remember if this came with BBEdit - otherwise you can find it on
versiontracker.com .
