It turns out that a setting I never used or wanted, correct spelling as
you type, was causing the typing slowdown. It's back to normal, but saving
is still slow.
It took forever to figure out how the default and expected behaviour of
pressing the Tab key at the beginning of a paragraph in a text file--
actually inserting a tab at that location *just for that line*-- could
actually be gained. 8.5 always wanted to indent every line of the
paragraph. Again, I didn't ask for that. It was 15 minutes of help files
and user manual before I guessed at the right settings. (Memories of
version 7's active, deliberate, irreversible destruction of characters it
claimed did not match the stated encoding.)
Spellcheck no longer skips over HTML. I wonder how long it will take me to
add every HTML element and attribute to the dictionary. I thought this was
one of BBEdit's advantages.
