This is very promising but when I select "Apple Color Picker" instead of "Web-safe" it doesn't make any difference, I still get the square palette

Hi Patrick,

I too have the Apple Color Picker (ACP) chosen, and it works for me. (BBEdit 8.5/OS X 10.3.9) At least it does when I select an existing color code in my CSS file and choose Edit Tag. That brings up the Font dialog (because I chose to edit the "color" of a class). Then when I double-click the color swatch I get the ACP.

If you're following a different route to your result, let me know and I'll see if I can duplicate it here. If I can do that, they may name the bug after us!

I just noticed the ACP has a row of icons across the top, one of which is Palettes. And one of those Palettes is Web Safe Colors, so it looks as if one wouldn't need to use the Pref setting Web Safe Colors anymore, since you can get that from within APC. The things you wouldn't know if you didn't look. (Which could be the title of a section of the BBEdit FAQ.)
