My text file looks like this:

about / apropo, a

Well, you almost have one column for the words and one for the defs
already. Why not simply find ' / ' and repalce with a tab, then
import the file into Excel/OOo?

singing along, when you're sad, when you're lonely and it all turns
out wrong...
