This may even have been a Super Get Info thing. SGI came :-( bundled  
with a set of contextual menu plugins -- one of which was "Open with  
BBEdit". Such plugins no longer work in SL.

However, if you go to System Preferences > Keyboard and click the  
Keyboard Shortcuts tab you will be able to set, under Services a Text  
service called "Open File" -- That will do what you're after.

(There's also a "Open File in Super Get Info" if you are indeed using  
it.)
