I suspect that you are all subject to a bug in 10.1.1 that seems to cause an inordinate number of messages to be written to the console, thereby slowing performance to a crawl; I had the same problem, and Rich suggested that I try the 10.1.2 update available from a pinned topic in this forum. It solved my problem immediately, with no other drawbacks that I can see.
