There's no harm in flogging a dead horse just to see if latest medical 
practices help can help.  :0)

Having used editors that provide tabs or, indeed, tabs and a file list I 
think Barebones have made the correct deign decision in just implementing 
one and making it the best possible implementation. I think it's agreed 
that tabs don't scale well and although they cope with a small number of 
files there comes a point where they start to get in the way. The point at 
which this happens is not fixed.

While the implementation of tabs is almost universal, the solution to the 
problem of too many tabs is NOT.

I would suggest that it's worth persisting with BBEdit's implementation to 
see if it becomes natural.
