In a nutshell, what I need to know is if there is a Terminal command
to set BBEdit’s default behaviour, so that hitting the Return key in
the search window will result in the cursor advancing to the next line
so that I can add more text before beginning my search, instead of
immediately initiating the search, when the Return key is pressed.
PS: Please further note that typing Option-Return within the
"Find" or "Replace" fields of the Find window inserts a literal
or 'hard' line break into that field, which may -- or may not --
be what you want. :-)

Patrick Woolsey
