This is likely a problem with Gentoo. I use openSUSE with NetworkManager

connect.

Are you sure the WEP key has been entered correctly? WEP has the
unpleasant habit of not informing
anyone that the key was wrong. You need to get the hex key that your AP is
expecting (not a
passphrase) and enter it.

Hi Larry.
I forgot to mention that I am using 64studio, an offshoot of Debian, I just
happened to see the kernel config options on that page. You may be right
about the WEP key; I'll see what else I can try. I tried it both with and
without dashes like ****-****-**. I'm pretty sure the key I have is hex-
it's alphanumeric, 10 characters, and I used it under the Windows wireless
dialog.
But that would explain why it can scan, and why the RX count isn't zero, but
is very low.
I'll try a few ways of entering it, but do you have any ideas how it should
go in? I also tried running "iwconfig eth1 essid "frank"" and "iwconfig
eth1 key hex-code" as separate commands...

Thanks for your help.
