Hi Stacey, I don't thin efforts to contol them on just your property would be futile, but common sense says that the problems could lie in your neighborhood.
Gil had some great ideas. I say go for the BAT BOX, or a couple. Someone else on this list probably knows how many mosquitos a bat will eat in a night. I've never built one, but it sounds like a great idea to me. The ashing method we use was suggested by Rudolf Steiner when he lectured to the farmers in 1924. He implyed that by collecting 60 or so insects and burning them in a small fire until they are ash, one would effectively drive the insects out, he said it would take four years of ashing to take the full effect. I reccomend the Fall and Winter 1999/2000 issues # 27 and #28 of Applied Biodynamics, available from the Josephine Porter Institute for Applied Biodynamics (this is an educational center for preperation making, people come from around the world to learn here. They are also the source of quality BD and Pfieffer preparations for those who buy them) by calling 276-930-2463 where there are two indepth articles explaining the whole ashing process, which is not difficult, but rather easy. Others on this list also have experience with ashing insects.
