Wel, if you are searching for the string in the entire file, it will take a lot of time. What you can do is read the entire file at once in an array, rather than reading it a byte at a time. This will surely speedup the process, considering the snippet that you have posted. But a linear search, all the same, is going to take time, unless you have indexing in place to help you search faster (which I guess isnt, right?).
