Hi Mrinal,
When you specify runat="server" that means the code
runs on the server before the page is sent to the client. Now, you have already
specified C# as the server side language in your ASPX page and when you try
to execute javascript or jscript at the server side, you get the error. When you
use runat=server with languange=C#, you don't get any error since it is the same
language specified for the server side execution.
If you remove, runat attribute then this gets
executed at the client side and you don't get any error since it comes under the
client side setting. What I mean, if client side can execute VBscript and
Javascript, it will get executed.

Hi Everybody ,
My doubt could be bit trivial but still i wanna know nitty
gritties of this thing , i am into microsoft technologies from
.net only , now whenever we make a web application if we need to
provide some client side logic or processing , we can add
<script language="javascript"> and do it , now
as per me javascript & vbscript are meant for client side
functioning , but however i can go ahead and add runat="server"
tag to the same , in this case it gives me an exception as page
language is c# , so if i just remove that ( language = C# ) in
page directive , things start working ,
Now does that mean that javascript is there for both server
& client or there's some flaw in my understanding , because
what i have seen is whenever we go for customvalidator , then we
need to provide client and server side script and normally
client side script is in javascript / vbscript and server side
in a .net compliant language ,
I hope i am clear , any help would be appreciated ,
Regards ,
Mrinal
