----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on BDOTNET
----------------------------------------------------------- From: Mrinal Message 8 in Discussion Hi Soumitra , Well Definitely a Logical Point that you have brought in , Porting on Different OS is Something that .net still doesn't have as far as commercial versions are concerned , as mono is not a commercial software . But Let's Consider few more things apart from stats of microsoft products mentioned above by one of our friend : 1. Fact that .net commercial version is only meant for windows Family OS , as of now is an explicit truth ( not a hidden secret ) , which u can easily found on any of the microsoft's official site , then i wonder about the company which initially thought of going for a .net as development platform , even when they knew that they have all kinds of other boxes ( viz : unix , aix so on and so forth ) ( Well i hope , that they knew it) . 2. Still Probably there are couple of reasons to think so , may be their consultant would have suggested them to go for .net , considering easy development and various other positive points ( let's not count them , easily available on google search ) , but then this multiple operating system factor thing came into picture , now if it is web application they are going to develop then i think it won't be a big deal to host it on a windows server and ur client could be any box , provided it doesn't have a legacy browser that doesn't even render html 3.2 Moreover WindowsServer.Net2003 is doing good enough to get it's share of pie . However Windows App is a Real Limitation , as it's End Product is an exe that needs .net sdk on the system to run . Ok Finally i think i have made my point but one thing for you instead of pointing a well known fact or trying to be little somethin' , if you can do somethin' to port .net on any other operating system , then it can help you into Microsoft , which definitely will be a dream come true , being in software . Moreover market shares are not gained by fluke or success stories are not build in air , so there must be some solid base to support , isn't it ? Enjoy Maadi , Regards , Mrinal ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/bdotnet/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
