Hi folks, Well this has been running for a long time in my mind.Need some
clarifications. In a perfect scenario of DB Driven applications, consider the
scenarios. *Suppose two users logs in at a same time ,retrieves same record and does
some modification, update it (dataset in disconnected mode),obviously, the second to
update will overwrite the first one.So there is a conflict, atleast for the first user.
*Suppose for a primary key field,I am fetching the max(number)+1,then in concurrent
scenario, there is always a possibility that two users get a same number. So when
inserting, primary key will throw error and the second user is in panic.. My
understanding and a solution for the above scenarios are 1) Either I can have row
level locking (pessimistic),but its not feasible in Web 2)Should have a timestamp for
records,do some manipulation on that. 3)Capture the database exception and act
accordingly. In all cases,my only concern in,can't I give a comfort feeling for the
users... So,can anybodt summarize and tell me,what are the key points to be
considered when developing a Perfect DB application(if at all one is there :)) in a
multiuser environment. Cheers Satheesh
