Ok - this is going to be embarrassing, but what the hell. I originally set this virtual server up a few months ago in preparation for moving the BPS, along with another virtual server running an ASP.NET application. *That* server is running SQL 2005 Standard. In the intervening time, I had forgotten that the new BPS server I had set up a few months ago, but had not brought on line, had actually had 2005 SQL Express installed on it. Like I said, embarrassing.
Anyway, now that I see that people with similar setups, (MSDE, 2005 Express) are not having the same problem, I'm definitely concerned that something is not right.
