I am glad you are happy with jconsole and vi.
I am amused that you say the mysteries of the IDE pass you by. If you didn't
know that the ijs window was a text edit window that was loaded with ctrl+w
then you can't have spent more than a few minutes tackling those mysteries.
Your apparent conclusion seems a tad unfair. Given that many new users to J
are unfamiliar with vi and consoles and that the J IDE has strong
similarities to those for C, C++, VB, Java, etc, I think it is a good thing
that we provide the J IDE in addtion to the old tried and true tools.

Well, on my system, when I create new ijs (ctrl+n) windows,
then the tile, tile across, and cascade do rearrange the windows
as i would expect, but other than the initial .ijx window, none
of the others are "connected" to the j engine (so not very useful...)
These are windows for preparing scripts, not windows for
immediate execution.
If you want to execute the contents of a .ijs window,
use one of the options from the run menu. (Personally, I
usually use "Window", and sometimes "Window Display".)

Ahhh ... As I said, one of those mysteries of the IDE that
passes me by. In that case, I think things work as expected
in the new Darwin n beta. I remain happy/delighted with jconsole
and ancient tools like vi and !# scripts :)
