Yes I accidentially downloaded an old version of vcredist_x86.exe.
The installation works now with the newer version.
The versions of vcredist_x86.exe are delivered on similar looking
microsoft-pages and if the serach engine brings the older version
first it is a bit difficult to notice.

showing the installation, or does it run silently - the latter means it fails.
Also, you should ensure that you have a recent version. The latest
is dated 8/27/2007. In microsoft.com, search for:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86).
