Subject says status.

However, I find very dismaying the prospect that anything like the
current front end will disappear, to be replaced by a browser interface.

The J6 front end is lean -- just a title bar and a menu bar. But,
because I use my browser for browsing, it takes up lots of screen space
with navigation toolbar, search toolbar, bookmarks toolbar, status bar, etc.

Moreover, with the J6 front end, I have immediate access to the File,
Edit, Run, Tools, Studio, etc., menus. At least as implemented so far,
J701 seems to require

But I do understand the reasons for wanting to shift to this new
paradigm for the front end: eliminate (most) developer hassling with
API for multiple platforms.
