jhs is just another way to interface with J. It may not suit your needs. The new jgtk interface will perhaps be more to your taste as it will be similar to the traditional j.exe and j.jar, but with far more GUI capabilities and features and will be part of the larger GTK development efforts. Or has been pointed out several times, you can just stick with jl.exe and j.jar.
You change browser configuration depending on your browser and platform. Perhaps you should just continue with J602 and wait for the jgtk 701 release.
