I can't confirm that profilex.ijs gets created if it doesn't exist, are you sure? Even if it does, the problem I anticipate with that method is that you'll end up with two j602-user folders. An orphaned one created in the default location (~home/j602-user) by the initial run and one wherever you subsequently specify it to be in profilex.ijs. > Maybe it would be less confusing if profilex.ijs were named profile.ijs > and what is now profile.ijs named something else, like startj.ijs. > To me, calling it profilex is confusing. Most of this probably comes down to peoples' different ideas of what "startup" or "profile" mean (probably formed by past experience). Looking at profile.ijs the only thing it really does is define the location of, and create, the J systemfolders. It then passes off to boot.ijs. profilex.ijs (if it exists) just customizes the location of the ~user systemfolder. So if they were to be renamed, maybe the following would be appropriate. * profile.ijs --> boot_sysfolders.ijs * profilex.ijs --> boot_sysfolder_user.ijs (optional) > Of course, there is config.ijs to confuse people. Are you thinking of ~system/util/configure.ijs? I don't think that script is located anywhere that should worry a new user? > On Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 5:50 PM, Sherlock, Ric > <[email protected]>wrote: > > > From a new user's point of view, I imagine the "copy > profilex_template.ijs > > to profilex.ijs and edit to suit" approach isn't exactly the pinnacle > of > > user-friendliness. > > > > The thing it really has going for it IMO was that you only have to > get it > > right once.
