There are some basic elements of interest for newcomers/testers and that are the labs, demos and helps.
If you do not know what the gui is going to look like or how the labs and demos should operate nor what the helps will say there is not much testers can do. Even those wanting to experiment do not know what to do. That is partly the reason this should possibly be called alpha and not beta. In the jhs there are some demos and there are labs. Nothing yet similar in the gtk gui.
