Agreed.

In addition I think that to attract (and especially retain) new users
to the community, the environment needs to be as clean and simple as
possible. You can only say "Don't worry about that, you'll get used to
it after a while" so many times before the listener decides they've
had enough.

I've seen the jshowconsole verb in JHS and I suspect that something
similar in Gtk would be desirable and should probably be set to 0 by
default (i.e. you can show it if you want to see it).
