The problem may be specific to the SSODS installation since it uses Perl
in an unusal location (/volume1/SSODS/{bin,lib,...}) rather than one of
the more common ones (/usr, /usr/local, /opt).However, Perl is compiled
with those paths built-in and no special hacks, such as setting
PERL5BIN, PERL5INC, LD_LIBRARY_PATH and the like, are necessary/active.
There ara also a couple of other "hacks" necessary in order to run Perl
on the Diskstation (i.e. a dedicated libc and dynamic linker). 

And it did work some time ago. I'll try to find the last working
revision and take a look at the changes in between.
